Etoro and The Copy Trader System

Why trade on Etoro?
Create Social Networks – I love the social side of this platform as it allows you to follow and engage with my favourite traders. There are plenty of investors who post lots of insightful content. Plus, there’s the added bonus of a nice bit of banter on occasion. And who doesn’t love that? Be aware that as with any social site, there will be people putting out inaccurate data, so make sure to do you own due diligence.

The Platform – The platform is very user friendly, this is the feature that initially got me hooked. The site makes it easy to view stocks and has great charting software built in. It’s very easy to open and close positions and to view your stats. Etoro provides a virtual portfolio too, it’s a great place to practice before committing to investing with your hard earning cash. The site has multiple support paths including your own account manager and instant chat, on top of a ticket based system, which means help is never far away.

Stock Selection – There is a wide selection of stocks which is added to regularly, you can also request for specific ones to be added using the request form. There’s good crypto exposure and a wallet for moving it from the broker.

Other perks include – No fees (Etoro earns via the spread), fractional share buying, low minimum deposits, detailed charting with a good selection of indicators/tools and the ability to earn interest on your unused cash balance. This is done using a banding system to determine the rate you would be eligible for. Recently they added ISA accounts with money farm to their offerings.

You can find an honest review of what Etoro has to offer here.

What is copy trading and why should you copy me?
It’s a free system that allows you to copy an investor’s portfolio by replicating their existing portfolio and copying any of their future trades automatically. It is a great way for new investors, that don’t want to spend a lot of time on research, to benefit from more experienced investor knowledge.

I don’t know your specific financial setup but what I do know, is investing can be stressful and very time consuming. I spend hours researching companies and getting to grips with the global economy. The copy trader system helps you to take advantage of my strategies and investment plans derived from my studies.

For more information on how the copy trader system works you can look here.

To copy my portfolio simply create an account on Etoro’s website and make a deposit. Then click ”copy” on my profile page here.

Button is on the top right of my profile home page

When to copy:
Any time is a good time as long as you plan to hold for the long term. My strategy is for long term gains. Therefore you will not reap the rewards if you prefer short term trades.

What kind of returns should you expect?
Some traders might promise to make you a certain % gain in a year or beat a particular index for the year. Personally, I don’t plan my trading around hitting those kinds of numbers in a certain timeframe. However as can be seen in the pictures below, 71.73% of my copiers are profitable. This will change from day to day as the market moves. My main aim is to find investment opportunities with outsized return potential. This results in large gains over a large time period but I can’t provide a timeframe for a lot of my investments. I trade solely to create wealth for myself but I’m happy to have you along for the journey.

Copy trading information:

  • ๐——๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป:
I recommend using a buy and hold strategy when copying my portfolio as profits can take time to grow. Copying for at least 2 years is best as not all years will be profitable. The longer the copy, the better the results.
  • ๐— ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—บ๐˜‚๐—บ ๐—œ๐—ป๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜:
A minimum copy of $500 is needed to open most trades, but I have some small positions that would only open with a $1000 copy.
However this is not essential as those small positions won’t have too much of a knock on to overall gains.
  • ๐—”๐—ฑ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—™๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ฑ๐˜€:
Most months I deposit a small amount of cash into my account, simply so I can take advantage of prices as they move. This happens on the 1st day of each month and I try to give a few days notice by reminding my followers and copiers on my home page. It’s not compulsory to match my deposits so please don’t feel obligated to do so. Etoro will automatically rebalance our portfolios so position sizing continues to mimic mine. It usually takes a few days to rebalance. You can always add to the copy if the market moves down to dollar cost average.
  • Volatility Tolerance and Stop Loss:
I buy volatility heavily as it often creates the potential for huge gains in the following years, for this reason try to have a very spacious stop loss or don’t use one at all. 30% would be the minimum.
Please donโ€™t invest more money then you are prepared to lose, or panic if you see negative numbers right after you start copying. The market will have both red and green days but overtime those gains will compound.

I will do my best to get everyone profitable as fast as possible but I can not guarantee a timeframe for this. We are all at the whim of the markets ๐Ÿค—

  1. Thanks for sharing your stats Jody. I always wondered how much skin in the game you had but didnโ€™t like to ask. It would be good if we could see these stats for all piโ€™s on EToro.
Can you tell me what net cash flow means please?

    1. You can actually see all PI stats from Etoro if you look them up on PI Scanner. Non fudged stats too ๐Ÿค—

I don’t generally like to put numbers up for all my portfolios just as added security, but I will say I’m hoping next year to have my public Etoro portfolio be eligible for the next level up as an Elite PI. That requires over a $50k balance and that will still be smaller than my crypto stacks.

Net simply means the difference. In Net cash flows case it means the difference of cash on balance from the outflows and inflows.
Net income is talked about a lot more. That’s referring to the profit a company is making. Essentially the difference between money coming in and money going out.

      Hope that helps!

      Jody
